Penny for Your … Stocks?

By Ross Brayton, Scottrade Branch Manager, Cape Coral, Fla. Over the course of our investing experiences most, if not all of us, have pondered the idea of investing in low-priced or “penny” stocks. The possibility of picking the stock that could quickly double or triple in value can be quite an intoxicating thought. While some [...]

Stinky Feet, Fungi and Airport Security

Have you ever been through airport security behind somebody with stinky feet? Ever wondered where those feet have been? Ever considered the amount of bacteria that passes through those security gates and how it may affect you. Think about all those bare feet. I never really thought about it until a recent trip back from New York and I found myself wondering, am I going to get athlete’s foot from somebody? I read a story on MedicineNet.com about this subject and one person stated:

Social Media Guide For Old Folks, By An Old Folk!

Ok, here’s how it works. Everybody remembers the old adage “one satisfied customer tells ten, those ten, tell ten ..etc” Well take that same principle and apply it to Twitter, for example. We are going to use Twitter to illustrate what we are talking about since it is the fastest growing forum right now.

Now, while reading this, I want you to keep in mind that this younger generation (no offense, we love you) have an attention span of about 15 seconds. This is not the result of some inferior intellect, in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Typically speaking, most people today, young or old, have very active lifestyles and this “younger generation” has become masters at multi-tasking. As a result, they don’t spend a whole lot of time on any one thing. Boom, next, boom, next…

Gold! Too Big To Fail?

Haven’t Financial Analyst and Financial Planners always preached “diversification”? Diversification is supposed to be a means to protect your assets. If one segment of your investment portfolio is performing poorly, diversifying hedges you. Isn’t this precisely what institutions such as AIG were doing? Some say, that created a scenario for company that was “too big to fail”. Well, we still like the idea of diversification as a means to protect your investments.

We recently featured an article about a gold mining company that had multiple divisions, in theory, designed to protect shareholders in the event one division fails. In keeping with that theme, we have discovered another company, related to gold, that intrigues us.

SF Gate: California unemployment rate highest since 1941!

I’ve been dealing in the public markets for nearly 12 years now and for the first time, I’ve finally found a small cap company that “gets it”. This company in not focused on its share price, they are focused on building revenue. They understand that revenue and profit is what dictates market price for their stock. I only wish more small caps would start to “get it” so they too can be successful.

The company I am talking about is SpongeTech (SPNG:OTCBB) SpongeTech(R) Delivery Systems is a company which designs, produces, and markets a unique line of reusable cleaning products for household use. These sponge-based products utilize SpongeTech(R)’s proprietary, patent (and patent-pending) technologies involving hydrophilic (liquid absorbing)

Will Gold Stocks See The Biggest Booms in 2009?

With gold prices topping $933.00 per oz., one has to question, is now the time to buy gold or has the buying opportunity already passed? Should you invest in the actual commodity of gold itself or is there an alternative that could prove to be more profitable?

The rise in gold prices from $250 per ounce in 2001 to over $900 today has drawn investors and speculators into the precious metals market. However, buying gold per se should not be considered an “investment”. After all, gold earns no interest and its quality never changes. It’s static, and does not grow as sound investments should.
